Sukesh Chandrasekhar has challenged the sentence given by the jail authorities in the High Court. The court has issued a notice to the jail administration on Sukesh’s plea. The jail authorities have issued an order banning Sukesh from meeting family members, making phone calls and using canteen facilities from May 1-15. Justice Dinesh Kumar Sharma issued notice to the jail administration and directed it to submit a report on the petition. The next hearing of the matter has been listed on April 28.

Additional Standing Counsel Nandita Rao accepted the notice. Sukesh’s counsel Anant Malik argued that two punishment tickets were issued to Sukesh without a hearing. This is a serious issue as the petitioner’s mother and entire family reside in Bangalore.

It is necessary that such restrictions should be banned. Additional Standing Counsel (ASD) Nandita Rao opposed it, arguing that there was no urgency in the matter. The petitioner has prayed the court to stay the execution of the order passed on April 17 by the office of the Deputy Superintendent of Prisons, Mandoli.

The petitioner has been given two tickets depriving him of facilities including canteen, meeting and making phone calls for 15 days. The petition also states that the Jail Superintendent was very well aware of the fact that these facilities are only means. Through this the petitioner is able to communicate with his old mother who is currently in Bengaluru. Cannot travel to meet her son due to her health issues.

The petitioner had the means to stay in touch with her only through phone calling facilities. Without listening to him especially when the petitioner is an undertrial prisoner in several politically sensitive cases and he is getting death threats everyday.
